Digital Photography Workshop for Etsy Sellers -- Jewelry and Small Objects
This workshop is for artists who make jewelry and small objects (smaller than 12" square) who want to learn how to take better pictures using their own digital cameras.
Location: Marlo M's studio in Fremont
Class duration: 4 hours (with max students)
Max. Class Size: 4 students
Description:
As Etsy shop owners*, we know that our photos make or break the success of our stores. Are yours working for you? Ever wonder what makes those top selling Etsy shop's photos pop off the page? Want to learn how to make yours better?
Together we will look at your favorite and top selling Etsy shops (product, not supplies) to learn from their photos. We'll look at your product shots and (kindly) discuss how we can make them better. Then, we will take a few photos of your work and you'll learn how to re-create them at your home or studio.
*If you do not have an Etsy shop but are looking to improve the quality of your photos, this would be a great class for you too! I am happy to help you create the photos that will work for your website and/or catalog.
Please bring with you (required):
* Samples of your best work (up to 4 items to be photographed)
* The shop addresses of 2 Etsy shops that you admire for their photography (in your own category)
* Display materials (ie: paper, ephemera, rocks, plants what-have-you) that you want to use in your photos
* Your digital camera (and instruction manual if you still have it handy)
Please consider bringing (optional):
-- An idea of your shop's "brand" or "identity" (not necessary, but helpful!)
-- Business cards (if you have them)
-- Comfy shoes (we'll be doing a lot of standing!)
-- A snack / drink for our mid-session break (I have a small fridge in the studio)
-- The instruction manual for your camera (if you still have it)
-- A laptop with your preferred photo editing software installed (not required)
I prefer small class sizes so everyone can get their questions answered and besides that, my studio is pretty small! If you're interested in attending this workshop but find it's full before you can sign up, please RSVP to get on the waiting list.
Feel free to email or call me with questions or concerns.
Thanks! -- Marlo M.

Review of Small Object Digital Photography for Etsy Sellers, September 10, 2009
After I took this class with Marlo, the photos of my jewelry were instantly better. For anyone that is not happy with their photos, Marlo can definitely help out. The class sizes are very small which is excellent for one on one time. Marlo also helped out with a few tips for the etsy site which was a plus. Thank you for the great class!

About me via MarloM.com:
Marlo Miyashiro enrolled in her first jewelry class in 1987 while pursuing a theatre major and acting career in Los Angeles, CA. A few years (and many auditions) later, her desire to learn more about metalworking and jewelry fabrication put her acting career on hold while she joined UCLA's intensive extension jewelry program in 1989. The entrepreneurial spirit ultimately inspired the creation of Marlo M. Jewelry Design in the summer of 1993. 1997 marked a turning point when Marlo M. moved to her new home in Seattle, Washington. The creative climate of the Pacific Northwest inspired a fresh attitude and innovative designs that allowed Marlo M. Jewelry Design to prosper in its new environment.
Marlo M. creates her unique designs in sterling silver using a wide variety of hand tools. Her skilled use of the jewelers’ saw enables her to carve out intricate designs with remarkable accuracy. She then finishes each piece by hand, polishing the metal to a brilliant, mirror-like shine or burnishing the surface with a lustrous matte texture. Marlo M’s devotion to the fabrication process creates objects that are beautiful, functional and durable, lasting for generations.
“My designs truly reflect my personal mission to create fine handcrafted jewelry, accessories and giftware that inspires a positive point of view and celebrates the enduring spirit of friends, family and the joy of life.” - Marlo M.
About me today:
My "day job" is still designing and making my own line of sterling silver jewelry - http://MarloM.com
I also teach private jewelry classes, coach emerging artists to help them make a living by making what they love and in my "spare time" I organize EtsyRAIN - a group of over 550 Seattle based artists and craft makers that operate independent shops on Etsy.com.
If you have any questions about me, my experience or about EtsyRAIN, please feel free to contact me anytime!
