Description

Crafting the 10 Minute Play

The hottest new theatrical genre is the 10-minute play, with Festivals and even full runs of short pieces springing up all over the country. Playwright John Longenbaugh, multiple veteran of 14/48 and 24 Hour Theater Festival (as well as writer of over two dozen successful 10 minute plays, including the award-winning "Stardust"), gives you the long on the short in a series of classes that include a history of the genre, how a play differs from a sketch, finding inspiration when you're backed into a corner, choosing a subject, and a survey of publishers, contests, and production opportunities.

For over 17 years, Freehold Theatre has been providing outstanding classes taught by exceptional faculty. Our instructors include some of the most talented working artists in the area including the likes of Marya Sea Kaminski (voted Best Stage Actor in the Seattle Weekly's 2008 "Best of"), Amy Thone (winner of the Stranger's Genius Award in 2007), Paul Mullin (winner of the Stranger's Genius Award in 2008).

If you are looking for phenomenal classes taught in a supportive atmosphere, Freehold is the place.

Instructor John Longenbaugh is a Seattle-based playwright, director, and arts journalist. He trained as a director at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and his plays, which include SCOTCH AND DONUTS, THE MAN WHO WAS THURSDAY, A IS FOR APPLE, STARDUST, and HOW TO BE COOL, have been produced around Seattle and around the country. His regular column "Longenbaugh on Theater" is featured in the Seattle Weekly.
