Description
SVC's 1895 Reliance Handpress was just lovingly restored by Carl Montford, your instructor for this class. So who better to give you an overview of the history of handpress printing? Then we'll get our hands inky, working on a group project: an illustrated limited edition broadside printed from handset type and hand-carved imagery. The large bed will allow us to print a larger piece than would be possible on SVC's more modern Vandercook flatbed presses. Another difference: You ink the form up with brayers so you can print a multi-color job in one pass. Don't be surprised if Carl teaches you a thing or two about freehand carving of linoleum blocks -- another of his specialties.
Prerequisites: Intro to Letterpress or permission
