Implementing and Designing Integration Services (SSIS)

Description

This course combines courses 2792 Implementing and Maintaining SSIS (three days) and 2795 Designing an ETL Solution Architecture using SSIS (two days) into one five-day course.

This five-day intensive, instructor-led course teaches students how to implement Integration Services solutions in their organization. The course gives Business Intelligence professionals, as well as Database Architects, Developers, and Administrators, the decision matrix for designing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) solutions that support their BI and data-centric solutions.

Students will learn the considerations for modeling and planning ETL solutions (pre-OLTP, post-OLTP, OLAP, SSRS, SSAS, and upstream Data Distribution) and specifically how to design and implement a SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)-based ETL solution.

The course extensively covers the "how to" of development, configuration, deployment, optimization, and monitoring as well as considerations for management of Integration Services packages using the Business Intelligence Development Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, dtexec, dtutil, and dtexecUI utilities.

This course introduces students to .NET script access in the Integration Services run-time API and data flow API for extending and customizing almost every aspect of the SSIS object model. The course also covers considerations for upgrade and implementation of existing SQL 2000 DTS legacy packages within SSIS and the SQL 2005.

This course is intended for information technology professionals and developers who need to implement data transfer or extract, transform, and load (ETL) solutions by using SQL Server 2005 Integration Services. The target students for this course want to develop their understanding of design principles and best practices when planning, implementing, and deploying SSIS within an ETL solution.

Design Course Note: "Design" courses are meant to be a collaborative experience and you will get more out of this course if you fully participate and are willing to share your previous experiences with the class. Meeting course prerequisites are a must for this course. Design courses also focus on why you would do things a certain way (versus how to build and implement the technology). The labs in this course are paper based.
