Description

Could your college-bound son or daughter use some help boosting their scores on the fall standardized tests?

As an independent tutor, I'm able to custom-design programs to best help your student raise his or her score. I deal with all sections of the test, and train students -

- to tear through reading while re-constructing an author’s original meaning.
- to boil down convoluted sentences to basic subjects and predicates.
- to collect thoughts and lay out a tenable argument in twenty-five minutes.
- to draw on both the complexities and basics of math theory so they can see through the test’s tricks and marshal their full intellectual forces to answer the problems before them.

I use the test as an opportunity to connect students with the critical skills their schools don’t provide. In short, I teach thinking, reading, and writing at the highest levels. I love my job.

My qualifications speak strongly: I scored a 1590 out of 1600 on my own SAT (800 Verbal, 790 Math), and have worked as the lead test-prep instructor at a Scottsdale, AZ tutoring center. I'm the recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, a summa cum laude graduate of the Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University, a published writer and professional editor, and a philosophy teacher for gifted students. This coming winter, I'll be applying to Ph.D. programs in the history of education.

More importantly, I have a record of helping students raise their SAT scores. My first student improved his score from 1710 to 2000, which was instrumental in meriting him acceptance to Harvard. My most recent student improved 170 points – from the 10th percentile to the 34th.
