"One day this will be a great school."
Review of make it workshop , May 31, 2008
This is a brand new space and some of the classes are still "in-development". The owner, Joey, talks a lot about her kids sewing classes and I'd imagine this is where her heart is. We took an adult class - Crash Course in Sewing - and it seemed that Joey just sort of winged it, asking us what we wanted to learn. Really, we had no idea, so we asked to see how patterns work. We didn't learn much, and didn't walk away with any experience under our belts, and for the money that was a shame (you get more than double the class hours at Stitches' newby class for the same $). That said, we really REALLY enjoyed Joey. She's got a great spirit, is probably wonderful with kids, and in a month or two - once she settles in to her new space - will probably provide solid instruction for her adult students as well. We had a three star experience but I'll give one more for potential.

Yeah, as much as I hate to say it. I agree. It was my very first adult class. And it was what nightmares are made of.
I felt haggered afterwards and felt that after creating this wonderful space, perhaps this wasn't the right job for me!! Partially because one student announced that she already knew everything about the machine (which is what the class basically is) and that she just wanted to know how to 'sew something' but also because another student knew nothing about sewing and wanted to start at the very beginning.. ' and it really threw me for a loop..I did try my best to wing it.
So, even though I hate that the reviewer said she left having learned nothing. I learned SO MUCH from the experience! The very next Thursday night another adult class started , with wonderfully nice and eager students! I stuck to my lesson plan and it went great!! Afterwards, I felt revived and raring to go!!
And I am so excited about teaching.
So-Live and learn and sew sew sew!

"A Big Hit in Our House!"
Review of make it workshop , May 12, 2008
My 10yo daughter started a 5-week series of Into to Sewing with Joey - she is a beginner but by the end of the very first session she was already checking craigslist for sewing machines to buy with her own money!!! Joey is patient, fun, funny, skilled/talented, creative and a super teacher. My daughter said, "Joey is a great teacher because she's not like your friend's mom or your actual teacher, she's just young at heart!". I loved that - and so true. Highly recommended and reasonably priced considering the extra studio time students are entitled to.
