If you are learning Spanish, you will need to know how to type the accents marks and the ubiquitous ñ.  Here is a quick guide:

Windows:
 
á, é, í, ó, ú, :   CTRL+' (APOSTROPHE) + the vowel
 
Por ejemplo:
 CTRL + ' +  e =  é  
 CTRL+  ' +  o  =  ó
 
CTRL + shift +  ~ (all at the same time)+ n  = ñ
 
 
In a MAC:
 
Option + e, + vowel :   
 
Por ejemplo: 
option +e+ a = á
option +e+e= é
option+ e+i = í
option +e + o = ó
option+~+n=ñ
