Review of Miriam Ruiz, September 03, 2009
Miriam has been teaching my children (now 5 1/2 and 4) once a week since they were 3 and 2. She leads a structured, engaging, age-appropriate lesson that incorporates games, movement and songs.
Like many kids learning a second language, my kids are reluctant to speak with me but when I hear them say even a few words, I'm happy. They have a native accent! Hurrah. My kids' success in Spanish is Miriam's success. They are able to watch television shows and full length movies in Spanish. I'm not sure what they understand, but that they are not losing interest is significant. My older daughter, who has just started Kindergarten, is now reading in Spanish. They are not really conversing in Spanish yet but I am sure that will come with the development of their "ear."
I encourage you to give your kids the advantage of learning a second language young. It would be super if we could all go live in another country for a while and let our kids learn the best way possible, through immersion, or all have a second language in the home. If you can't do that, do the next best thing, sign them up with a tutor like Miriam, who can give them a fun yet solid foundation.
