Steven D. Brown C.S.W
For over 25 years, Steven D. Brown has been a driving force in the support of wine education, and the promotion of fine food and wine. Originally based in the Washington D.C./Baltimore/Northern Virginia area, Steven now calls Seattle home. Steven has been a professional Chef, Sommelier and Wine Consultant. As Sommelier Steven has been one of the ten Sommeliers to be invited to participate in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Fund for Philanthropy 100 Point Wine Weekend.
He has won many awards from the Wine Spectator for wine lists and wine programs he has managed and designed. His programs have also garnered praise in Food and Wine and Bon Appétit. Steven has served as manager and consultant to premier restaurants, fine wine, and gourmet shops. In May of 2008 Steven opened 12th and Olive Wine Company on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The shops focus is on wine and food education and showcases artisan wines from the world’s great growing regions.
A sought-after spokesperson and expert commentator on food, wine, and the wine industry, Steven has been interviewed on WJLA, WTTG Fox 5, WBAL, News Channel 8, NET Network’s The Vine Line, and KRSH Radio in Sonoma, CA, and his comments on wine and the wine industry have been quoted often in The Washington Post, Washingtonian Magazine, The Grape Press, and Wine East.
Steven also serves regularly as a wine judge in the Governor’s Cup Competitions of Maryland and Virginia and the Eastern International Wine Competition held in Corning New York sponsored by Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine. Steven has served on the Board of Directors of the Vinifera Wine Growers Association for nearly a decade. He is a member of the Society of Wine Educators and served as the society’s Regional Membership Chair for the states of MD, VA, DE, WV, PA, and Washington D.C., and is currently pursuing the coveted titles of Certified Wine Educator and Master Sommelier.
Steven Is currently an instructor at the Northwest Wine Academy at South Seattle Community College and holds a seat on the T.A.C committee.
He is frequently asked to speak about and present wines, and to lead seminars at charitable functions, trade conventions, alumni gatherings, and corporate events. Steven has recently been the featured educator for The Tasting Society International based in Washington D.C.
