The child of Mexican immigrants, I grew up bilingual and bookwormish, and delved into the study of French and Spanish literature as soon as I entered college. My studies took me to France, where I lived in Toulouse for a semester, and then spent a year teaching English in a small town south of Lyon. Throughout my college years I worked as a Teaching Assistant for French and Spanish, and as a writing assistant. I also worked as a resident assistant and substitute teacher at the Middlebury-Monterrey Language Academy.
I love working with languages, and seeing learners of all ages and backgrounds gain confidence in their skills and understanding. I believe the best way to learn a language is to have a holistic approach and to take risks! Language cannot be separated from culture, so I teach using authentic documents (news clippings, literature, music videos, recipes, etc) and I encourage students to take risks, make mistakes and learn from them. Learning a language is a journey, so why stay on the beaten path?
I am available for tutoring and conversation classes in Seattle and have a flexible schedule. Contact me for resume, references and rates!
