  • "Leash Waking and Recalls"

Review of Barkz University , August 03, 2008

We have a recently adopted rescue dog and went through a 6-week basic obediance class with him at a different training school than Barkz. In our earlier class, we found that we were really struggling with finding a technique that was effective for us in teaching our dog to pay attention to us when walking on a leash. He generally walked on a loose leash, but due to his large size, was frequently just one or two steps ahead of us when walking on a leash, which made it difficult for us to direct him.

We took Leash Walking and Recalls with Joey Iversen at Barkz and the class was everything we had hoped for. Joey gave us some really helpful techniques which motivated our dog to pay attention to us when we do any kind of exercises together with him. The exercises we did with him were fun not only for him, but also for us, and allowed us to avoid getting frustrated in many situations! His new focus on us has made it easier for us to progress in all of our training work. His focus and attention when working with a variety of distractions and environments is vastly improved, and we have techniques now that will allow us to build on what we have learned over time.

Joey is easily one of the best, most accessible, and fun dog trainers we have worked with in the area. We would recommend her to anyone!

  • "Woof -- loved this class!"

    Review of Oh Behave! I , April 26, 2008

I'm a long-time Barkz fan... all the way back to their grand opening in November of 2007, when my owner (ha, they call him an owner... what a joke... anyway...) took me over to wish Paula and Bob well with their new store. It was an awesome visit. I got a new bed, bowl, and also got to play behind the counter (and sniff some pretty awesome dogs, but that's another story altogether). 5 woofs for this class!
