I have a long history providing sexual health education, primarily as a volunteer, for several non-profit organizations in the Seattle area. I have worked directly with patients, providing pregnancy, STD, birth control and sterilization counseling and I am also a registered HIV counselor. I love helping people make informed decisions about their sexual health and realized that parents need help talking to their kids. Additionally, I have a Masters degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Bastyr University/Leadership Institute of Seattle and am specifically trained in adult education, training and personal coaching.

When my son had questions about his body and its workings, I was surprised to discover that I was uncomfortable talking to him! I started thinking and realized that if I was uncomfortable talking to my child, other parents must be even more uncomfortable. I decided to start Birds + Bees+ Kids to help parents become informed, confident and comfortable talking to their children of any age about sex, love and relationships.

One of the unique elements of my work is my lack of political or religious affiliation or agenda. Many parents want a place they can get information that is not associated with a political movement or religion. I provide parents and caregivers with an environment that encourages them to explore their personal values about sex, love and relationships and then decide what is right for their family based on their values.

I live in Seattle and have been married for over a dozen years. We have a six year old boy who keeps us on our toes playing pirates, digging and answering questions like "How long do you have to lie like that?" when we talk about how babies are made.

  • "A must for all parents!"

    Review of Birds + Bees + Kids 101 , July 31, 2008

This class is a must for all parents, regardless of their child's age. There is something to be learned for parents with kids ages 2-20!

Amy's lively format and straight forward approach to a potentially embarassing topic, make the class terrific!
