Birthing Garden

Sewickley, PA

My interest in childbirth began in 2003, after the birth of my first daughter. After experiencing a medically managed pregnancy and birth, I read the birth stories of women who chose home birth. It amazed me to realize that these women trusted so much in their bodies and that they instinctively knew what to do when their birthing time arrived. It was then, that I knew my next birth would be different with the right support and education.

My daughter and I did not get the hang of nursing for several months. We worked hard and eventually had a long, successful nursing relationship. As a result, I found myself experienced in handling nearly every nursing challenge imaginable. Currently, I enjoy offering peer breastfeeding support.

My second daughter was born in 2006, naturally and peacefully at a birth center with midwives. My husband and I were supported by a birth doula. What a difference it made to be alert, relaxed and aware of every moment. I truly believe that our nursing ease was a direct result of her drug-free, peaceful birth. My doula and friend was my inspiration to pursue my dream of working with pregnant families and babies after my second daughter's birth.

My personal birth philosophy is that a woman should dream and plan for a pregnancy and birth that is healthy, painless, peaceful and easy. She should find herself surrounded by love and support. When her birthing time comes, she should be free to follow her body's instinct, uninhibited by technology or other outside influence. Parents deserve the support and information they need to make the important decisions regarding their baby's birth. When they get this information, they feel empowered and confident in their choices.

The Hypnobabies childbirth education course, fits this philosophy perfectly. Whether you choose it or another course, you can be assured that my labor support will be the same; I will respect your choices and I regard it as an honor to be present during your birthing time.

I am a certified Hypnosis for Childbirth Educator and Hypno-Doula by Hypnobabies. I am also a trained labor assistant through ALACE. My personal experience as a postpartum woman and nursing mother prepared me to help as a Postpartum Doula. I am also currently a student of massage therapy and will add Hypnotherapy and EFT to my practice over the next twelve months.

I am happy to work with other birth professionals and I am available to provide continuing education classes on hypnosis for childbirth and Hypno-Doula certification for doulas already certified with a national organization. Community outreach is my passion and I welcome any opportunity to talk with people about painless childbirth without drugs, breastfeeding advocacy and education, babywearing and other natural parenting topics.

Peace and warmth for the birth you desire
