Brian Lally

I have been playing guitar for twenty-one years and teaching for fourteen years. I studied music at Western Washington University where I completed a B.A. in classical guitar. I have also studied voice with internationally recognized singers Pamela Casella and Craig Nim. My past engagements have included a live on-air performance on the Bob Rivers Morning Show on 102.5 KZOK FM, in-concert performances at the Seattle Arts in Nature Festival, the Northwest Faerie Festival, and the Seattle Museum of the Mysteries and weekly performances at the 4th & Madison Building in downtown Seattle for four-and-a-half years. I customize my instruction for each individual student. Some students want to learn classical fundamentals and repertoire, some want to create their own music, and some just want to strum their favorite song. I teach classical, acoustic steel-string, electric, and bass guitar in most styles including classical, folk, and rock. I know that every person is different, and has something different to communicate. For classical students I place a lot of emphasis on musicality, expression, and making the guitar imitate the human voice--the most expressive of instruments. I feel that the ability of each individual performer to communicate in his/her own way is much more important than academically sanctioned interpretation or political correctness. For students who want to learn pop, folk, or rock, I teach music by their favorite artists along with a solid technical foundation so that bad habits are avoided and exploration of other musical styles is possible if desired. I teach in several locations: my home studio in West Seattle; my teaching space in the University District; or at your home.
