Michelle Philip learned to paint and draw at a classical Atelier twenty years ago.  After many years as a portrait painter, she joined the full time faculty and taught for 4 years at the Colorado Academy of Art, a private art school that offered 2 and 4 year certificates in classical realism style painting, drawing and sculpture.  Michelle taught drawing, painting, art history, color theory, composition, materials, and master's reproduction. When the Colorado Academy of Art closed in June of 2008, Michelle opened her own school in Boulder, called the "Classical Art Academy." The Classical Art Academy program focuses on learning fundamental skills so that students will have the confidence to develop their own styles of expression. All types of art are appreciated and accepted. Classes are small, no more than 10 students. The philosophy of the school is that all students are capable of mastery if they have the proper instruction, so beginners are welcome. Classes have students of mixed abilities, and more experienced students encourage and inspire newer students.   The studio is well equipped; easels, lights, tables and props are provided.  A full size model stand and lighting is provided for portrait and figure students.  Parking is directly in front of the studio, and there are two restrooms.  The student body is a close knit "family" with a common purpose - love of art and the desire to become better artists. All classes are ongoing, and most students take several classes in an individualized program of study. Complete beginners are welcome and are nurtured as they progress. Students are always amazed how quickly their skills improve at the Classical Art Academy.
