David Lorenz is as an exceptional improvisational pianist and highly recognized and sought after teacher, personal coach, facilitator and consultant. David facilitates and creates training plans for both individuals and organizations and teaches privately in Seattle and the greater Eastside. David has taught privately for over 9 years. David grew up in Seattle's Roanoke Park area on Capitol Hill where he began his formal musical journey at age six under the direction of concert pianist and Juilliard Graduate Jean Boardman. With Ms. Boardman, he performed in various Northwest recitals and national piano competitions until his early entry into Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle's premier arts conservatory, in 1986. David's early compositions are harmonically and rhythmically rich in texture, and include works for percussion ensemble, electro-acoustic media, voices, and Indonesian Gamelan. Back in the "Cornish years", David first began to venture beyond his traditional classical performance background to explore the piano as a vehicle for free and spontaneous improvisation. Encouraged by working with some of the most respected artists in contemporary music, including Janice Giteck, Randy Halberstadt, Matthew Kocmieroski, Thomasa Eckert, and Roger Nelson; David thrived while developing a diverse background in composition, Jazz improvisation, voice, electronic media, and classical performance.
