Doug Smith is a professional percussionist based in Portland, Oregon. For 12 years he traveled the globe playing drums, percussion, and vibraphone with Portland’s Pink Martini. Doug was also a member of the 1985 World Champion Garfield Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. His education includes a degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Oregon which he attended on partial scholarship. He now dedicates his time to teaching people of all ages the art of percussion and drumming with an emphasis on playing and learning because it’s fun.
Fluent in many styles of drumming, Doug is the inventor of the “Rhythm By The Numbers” system, a series of books that can help even the least experienced students understand rhythm without having to jump immediately into learning complex notation. With Doug, learning to play the drums is an instantly satisfying experience.
