When I was in high school, I was asked to be a peer tutor in mathematics. I accepted and shortly there after was hooked on teaching. Since that time, I have made time within my schedule to tutor or teach. Nothing I have done has ever compared to the thrill of seeing a person's face light up when they really understand a new concept. I have bachelor of arts degrees in biology, chemistry and computer science. I hold master of science degrees in medicinal chemistry and computer science. I have taught classes at the junior college and college level for the past 12 years on a part time basis. I have worked primarily as a software engineer for the past 20 years. Over that time I have worked with database software, educational software, scientific programming and embedded systems. I am fluent in a number of computer languages and a large number of commercial software packages.
I have, also, worked as a researcher in bio-medical laboratories. See my resume for more details. I am an avid game player. To date I have yet to find a game that I won't play at least once. I have a long term adiction to bridge, chess and role playing games. I've played collectable card games, including Magic and Pokemon. Beyond all this I love reading, to the point that it really doesn't matter what it is, cereal boxes, junk mail, serious texts or trashy novels. I read them all. More importantly I look for excuses to read them all. I would like to say that I have a single foolproof way of helping someone master a subject. To believe in such a method I would have to believe that all students are the same, motivated by the same things and use the same learning methods. This just isn't true. My method is to adapt to the student, try to speak to them in ways that make sense, give them the tools and information they need to succeed at the task at hand, in a way that is natural for them.
