WA State Licensed Acupuncturist, specializing in Acupuncture, Moxabustion, Asian Bodywork, Client and Professional Education, Martial Arts, and Movement Education
Ed Antkowiak has been studying and practicing Acupuncture and Asian Medicine since 1982. He has graduated from two different acupuncture schools; The Kototama Institute (Japanese Medicine), and The Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM - Chinese Medicine), where he obtained a Masters Degree in Acupuncture.
In his practice, he likes to focus on client education, out of a belief that if clients understand how this medicine can help them, they will be more able to participate in their own healing process.
Ed has taught at several of the acupuncture schools in the Seattle area, at massage schools, and for small private groups, including classes such as:
Acupuncture
Moxabustion
Manual therapy, including
Abdominal massage
Manual diagnosis and assessment of joint injuries
Acupuncture Channel massage
Body Mechanics for Bodyworkers
External Applications and Compresses for Self-Care of Injuries
and many others
Traditional Diagnostics and Evaluation methods
He was Vice President of the National Sports Acupuncture Association, and editor of the NSAA Newsletter for 2 years.
Ed has trained in martial arts for over 25 years. In the course of his training, he has had extensive training in Aikido, Hwarang-do, and martial arts from the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and China. He is a former instructor for the Powerful Choices/Model Mugging programs, with whom he taught women’s self-defense and empowerment programs in Seattle and around the country. He was deeply involved in working with program development and Instructor Training.
Ed has also developed a sophisticated series of classes about body mechanics for the workplace (based on martial arts principles), geared towards helping lower risks of injury for people who depend on their bodies to do their work. These classes include subjects such as:
Dynamics of Pushing and Pulling
A new approach to Safe Lifting
Strategies to avoid Slip, Trip, and Fall Injuries
Safe use of the hands to prevent Repetitive Strain Injuries
These classes have been well-received in Industrial Manufacturing and distribution facilities, as well as by bodyworkers and other Healthcare practitioners.
In Ed's practice, one of his specialties is in working with athletes and dancers, treating training injuries including sprains, strains, post-surgical recovery, and chronic overuse injuries. He has also worked with athletes in optimizing performance and preparing for events. Ed’s expertise in sports medicine translates into other injuries and painful conditions including Auto accidents, chronic overuse injuries such as Tendinitis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and recovery from surgery.
