Erika Gentry is a Visual Artist and Educator. She specializes in digital imaging, photography, education and printing in the Bay Area. An early advocate of the creative digital domain, she has been teaching and presenting Photoshop, photography and multimedia at the institutional, organizational and individual levels nationwide since 1996. She has taught one-on-one and group courses at corporations and colleges such as The Rochester Institute of Technology, The San Francisco Art Institute, Foothill College, City College San Francisco and Rayko Photo Center. She is currently full-time faculty at City College San Francisco.
She has been an independent project director and digital consultant for individuals and corporate clients such as Apple, Kodak, Business 2.0 Magazine and industry-celebrated photography books: John Sperling’s politically divisive The Great Divide: Retro vs. Metro (2004) and most recently renowned documentary photographer Colin Finlay’s Testify (2006).
Gentry grew up in Portland Oregon and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene. She completed her master of fine arts degree in The School of Imaging Arts and Sciences at New York’s Rochester Institute of Technology. Her personal photographic projects explore issues of identity as expressed through the use of technology. By collaborating with members of the community, she creates installation portraiture in an interpretive and docunarrative format using stills, video and sound. She exhibits her art work nationally. She serves on the Board of Directors for Fotovision.org and as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for The Society for Photographic Education West Region.
