I am a software engineer by profession, although I originally studied chemistry and wanted to be a chemistry professor. I have master's degrees in both chemistry and computer science, with a strong math background in both fields.
I have been tutoring math, chemistry, and physics for about five years, and a few years ago I worked almost two years full time as a substitute teacher in local public high schools.
I enjoy working with individual students, and I always aim to get students to think more, by asking them questions. I also try to relate whatever topic we are studying to everyday life, to get students to better recognize the connections between academic subjects and common experience.
All of my own children are now grown women, and I think that I work well with female students.
I always emphasize, when I first meet with students and parents, that tutoring is a serious undertaking and that both the tutor and the student have important responsibilities. I also think that it is important to understand that the goal of tutoring is to increase the student's understanding of the subject, not just to get homework done.
