After training in painting, graphic design, photography and printmaking in London from 1965 to 1972, I went on to spend the next 20 years working exclusively with the figure. Both life drawing and painting have been my main artistic preoccupation. My use of the narrative in my painitngs grew out of boredom with simply presenting the figure on a plain field. I was struck by the difference between the first 500 yrs of painting and the narrative free works of my own half of the century. My interest in classical painting continued to grow through those years in London and I decided to return to formal study and attended the New York Academy where I received my MFA Cum Laude and moved permanently to the USA. I currently reside in Santa Fe where I work and delight in the peace and beauty of the desert landscape. I have also continued to make drawings in charcoal and pastel and sometimes water based materials. Still pursuing the figure as a source, I find drawing the most fundamental and necessary form of expression and I believe crucial to any artist, regardless of their main medium. My family background is European, immersed in the Holocaust of 1936-1945 and the German Jewish Romantic movement of the 19th Century.
