Grace Institute, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), was established in 1996 by Grace Memorial Episcopal Church. Its mission is to creatively engage the challenges and changes facing the city of Portland and its neighborhoods, through programs and services in four areas of urban life: the arts, education, health care and urban livability. In response to waning arts education in Portland Public Schools, Grace Institute established three comprehensive youth arts programs that provide equitable access to after-school and summer arts education: Grace Academy (currently on hiatus), Grace Art Camps, Peace Camps, and Community Art Classes. All Grace Institute programs support creative choice, foster community-based collaboration, and expand cultural awareness.
