Amelia Sarles conceived the idea for habla in 2004 while researching second language acquisition in Greece. Amelia’s native language is English and she was raised in San Mateo, California. She began her second language studies when she was eight years old beginning with Greek and then Spanish. During the last twenty years, she has traveled and lived throughout Greece, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Cuba, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and China.
Amelia has achieved her single-subject teaching credential in Spanish and English, and a Master’s in International and Multicultural Education. She has been an educator since 2000, teaching both Spanish and English in public high schools and teaching Spanish language to adults in private and group settings. During this time, Amelia has met with the founder of the TPRS® method, collaborated with colleagues on effective implementation of TPRS®, attended multiple TPRS® conferences, and observed educators and their execution of TPRS®.
Amelia is personally familiar with the rewards and challenges faced by language learners. Her personal experiences as a language learner make her a compassionate, creative, and effective educator, who skillfully identifies with her participants and their learning needs.
