JAB Piano Studio...
Provides both instruction and performance for those who wish to enrich their lives with music. Learning the piano is a matter of neither magic nor drudgery. While it requires perseverance and some effort, the right training environment and methods can make the process of learning to play more fun and fulfilling. The goal at JAB Piano Studio is to take all students as far in their personal exploration of music as their talents and interests will carry them.

A Personal Teaching Touch...
Mrs. Blasi emphasizes a step-by-step detailed development of proper technique, and musical reading skills. She also includes the best part of methods such as Noona, Clark, Alfred, & Faber & Faber, i.e. to tailor teaching to the individual student's needs or wishes. Such an approach produces far better results and leads to more than just the ability to simply "pound out tunes" on the piano. You become a solid musician, as well as a proficient player.

You will receive assignments at each lesson that you can practice in preparation for the next lesson. The studio is equipped with books, journals, and recordings to allow the student to gain a balanced and complete level of training. To reinforce skills learned during normal lesson times, a computer-assisted teaching lab, complete with MIDI keyboard and teaching software is available t students. The computer lab also provides opportunities for those students who wish to try their hand at composing or those that simply want to learn more about music generally.

Good Music is for Everybody...
Students in the studio range from very young children to retirees, homemakers, professionals, and working men and women of many walks of life. Mrs. Blasi particuarly enjoys students who are sincerely interested in learning the art of playing the piano well, even though they may not contemplate a career in music, per se.

Show Your Musical Talent to Others...
JAB Piano Studio students are invited to showcase their acquired musical skills in a supportive environment of other students and parents through the vehicle of community performances and formal recitals. Additionally, students are encouraged to participate bi-annually in the National Music Certificate Program Exams (http://www.nationalmusiccertificate.org/index.html) as an additional challenge and accomplishment. These exams are comparable to the Royal Music Conservatory Exams in Canada and the UK. They are rigorous and allow students to participate in outside adjudication opportunities.

Learning is a Two-Way Street!
As with any other learning endeavor, communication with students and parents is critical to success. At JAB Piano Studio, several communication vehicles are employed to assure a clear understanding of goals and methods. Each child is given an assignment notebook in which practice assignments are regularly marked, areas of weakness to be emphasized in practice are noted, and awards for exceptionally well-prepared lessons are made. Parents are encouraged to review the assignment book frequently and conferences with parents are welcomed.

I have an excellent instructing ethic and believe that lessons/music exist for the benefit of the student. However, one of the benefits of private lessons for each student is the responsibility of setting and achieving weekly goals. I do not continue with students who consistently do not attend to their weekly practice responsibilities.

I make a strong effort as a teacher to make those weeks of solitary practice the student's public success by offering several performance and group workshop situations. I also offer a firm base of theory by offering level appropriate group theory lessons and providing access to a computer theory lab before or prior to each student's lesson. My big picture goal is to create a musical community within my studio, so that each person's expression can be nurtured and shared.
