Josie Quick

Josie Quick/Perpetual Motion

Denver, CO

Josie Quick is currently accepting private violin students of all levels. This teacher's studio has been full for years, and will fill up again soon. She holds a Bachelor's degree in violin performance from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music.

Josie began teaching while still in high school, and twenty+ years later still loves it. Her enthusiasm inspires her students. She emphasizes the importance of technique to facilitate ease of playing. When it’s easy, it becomes fun, and that’s why we make music! She likes to lead her students in explorations of what makes it music and not just a bunch of notes. Creativity is mixed with discipline in a fun and friendly manner. She teaches Suzuki and traditional classical violin, jazz, fiddle, and blues.

Josie’s excellent teaching abilities are evidenced by her student’s success. Her students are members of the Arapahoe Youth Symphony, Colorado Youth Symphony, and Denver Young Artist’s Orchestra. A high percentage occupy the first chair in their school orchestras, some even share concert master responsibilites with other students from Josie’s studio.

Josie combines traditional note reading with Suzuki concepts to devise a teaching plan that is specific to the student’s age and abilities. Fiddle tunes and jazz improv can be thrown in for variety. She likes to expose her students to all the violin’s possibilities.

In addition to her private teaching studio she also teaches bluegrass and blues improvisation at Swallow Hill Music Association. These classes are designed as a low pressure environment to learn the joys of playing with other people. Students with a minimum of playing experience have signed up for her Easy Bluegrass Jam, and they keep coming back. “I just love seeing these students go on the lead their own jam sessions and participate in other jams”, she says. This class is open to all bluegrass instruments.

Students of all ages and abilities are welcome.
