Judy Browne

I am the creator and founder of Workshop for Women, LLC, where we offer fun, hand-on classes in basic home improvement skills for women.
I am also a certified home inspector with Pillar to Post.

I worked for 20 years as a manufacturing engineer and project manager for a large manufacturing company in Littleton. When the company began to send their operations overseas, I seized the opportunity to fulfill a long time dream: becoming a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. During that year, I trained hundreds of unskilled volunteers in the construction skills necessary to build a home.

The idea for Workshop for Women began to grow while I spent 14 weeks of my volunteer year working on a Women Build home. What impressed me most were the women who came to the site knowing little or nothing about construction and who left with renewed confidence and faith in their ability to accomplish anything they wanted. I wanted more women to experience that.

When my volunteer year ended, I was reluctant to rejoin corporate America, so I decided to use my engineering background and my experience with Habitat for Humanity to create hands-on workshops to teach women home maintenance and repair skills. We offer women an opportunity to learn skills to develop self sufficiency, to become empowered through learning and to gain a renewed sense of confidence in their abilities. And we offer a safe, comfortable and supportive environment in which to learn.
