I am interested in both sides of writing: writing as art, and writing analytically across the disciplines. I am a cum laude English graduate of Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, where I received the highest distinction on my senior written exams. I am also a 2008 graduate of the University of Washington's Master of Fine Arts program in Creative Writing. While enrolled in this program, I received a teaching fellowship, a Joyce Waddell fellowship, and was nominated for the Best American New Voices anthology.
As an instructor and tutor of expository writing skills (a blanket set of skills that comprises idea generation, reading comprehension, and essay planning, drafting, revising) at the University of Washington and local community colleges, I enjoyed connecting one on one with students most of all. I have worked with diverse groups of students, at all levels of academic need and discipline, as well as many non-native speakers.
All told, I am a writer, and I love to share this joy in the craft and skill of writing with those whom I tutor, teach, and collaborate.
