Laisha Beckwith has taught violin and viola to students of all ages and abilities. She structures her teaching methods to her students' individual needs by providing a strong foundation of technique, theory and musical development of tone as well as encouraging artistic individualism.
Laisha began her music studies at the Khmer School of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After her family moved to the States, she continued her studies in Philadelphia, Des Moines and Omaha. Laisha graduated from DePaul University in Chicago where she received a BM in violin performance. She has performed in masterclasses with Oleh Krysa and the Eroica Trio. After her degree she studied violin performance and pedagogy with Justin Rumm of Australia and Leo Phillips, an internationally renown violinist and conductor from London.
Laisha began her teaching career in Chicago, where she taught privately for two years before moving to Bangkok, Thailand. She taught at the Regent's School, a prestigious British International Preparatory school for four years in the capacity of string specialist. She taught violin, viola, cello, and piano in addition to forming, directing and coaching the numerous string quartets, ensembles and orchestras of all ages and abilities on campus. During this time, Laisha maintained a private studio in addition to being on the permanent faculty of the Bankok Symphony School.
While in Bangkok, Laisha frequently performed with many local orchestras, including the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bankok Symphonietta, the Bangkok Music Society, I Musicini and the Bangkok Symphony. She was also privileged to play in special performances given for HRH Princess Galyani, HRH the Queen of Thailand and participated as a soloist with other international guest artists in the special performance of Ayodhya for HRH the King of Thailand in honor of the year of his jubilee reign.
