The LSAT is the most important test you will ever take. A 10 point difference could mean the difference between paying $100,000 to 200,000 for Law School and getting your tuition paid for. It can mean the difference between Hofstra and Harvard. As such you should invest in an experienced, intelligent, and knowledgeable individual to teach you the LSAT.

There are three possible ways to study for the LSAT. Take a course, hire a tutor, or go it alone. Going it alone is extremely risky and unlikely to produce desired results. You may be saving $1,000 now, but it could cost you $50,000 when you attend Law School. Some courses are decent, but many are atrocious. The big three are to be avoided at all cost. The smaller, decent ones are worth the money, but the issue is that they are cookie cutter. They have spent massive amounts of money finding out what works for the average student. That knowledge is helpful, but you will not be the perfect average student since everyone is different.

A tutor is the perfect supplement to studying for the LSAT. There are many different tutors out there with many different teaching styles. The large majority of my students do very well with me because I teach the test holistically. I focus on the aspects underlying the test, and the core reasons students get questions wrong. With the LSAT, wrong answers are not always chosen because a lack of understanding. It can be for various reasons from a lack of confidence (it is important not only to know information, but to know that you know information), to not reading the question closely enough.
