I was brought up in the woods in upstate NY. I spent my childhood running through the forest, pooping in an outhouse, watching my father butcher deer, helping my mom put it through the grinder for freezing. I've spent more hours catching crayfish in our stream than I have minutes putting on make-up. So I approach gardening from a much different place than most professionally trained horticulturists. I haven't been trained in the all the great myths of the Green Revolution that pollute the minds of most gardeners. I'm trained in the natural - the streams, forests, meadows, farms and hunting grounds that I grew up with. I am a scientist. I base my garden work on soil science and ecology. I design whole systems - soil food, plant food, human food, animal food, water and waste, low-cost/recycled inputs. I capture the waste of the city to create a beautiful, sustainable bounty of garden.
