Marc Timothy Bolin

Los Angeles, CA

I have been fortunate enough to perform with some of the world's finest organizations. Some highlights of my career have been: playing Trad Jazz in a State Tour of China, performing with the Ambassadors of New Orleans' Jazz at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Israel, In 1999, I was part of a "The Last Swing of the Century Tour." A 13-piece band that toured the US for 3-months celebrating the music of jazz legend Benny Goodman with Clarinetist Ken Peplowski (To date, that tour was one of two times such permission has been given permission by the Goodman Estate and Bill Hyland, its executor,) and I performed in two of Philip Glass' Operas "Akhenaten" and "La Belle et la Bete," as well as some of my heroes and favorite bands Carla Bley, Johnny Rivera, Herman Olivera, Pete Escovedo, Sheila E,
Black Eyed Peas and the Ink Spots.

In 2007 Marc was awarded a commission to realize Duke Ellington's incomplete opera Queenie Pie for the Oakland Opera. I was then engaged by Kenny Burrell to conduct a concert version of Queenie Pie for the 100th Birthday Celebration for Duke Ellington at UCLA and was most recently a speaker at the Echoes of Ellington Conference where a production of Queenie Pie, by the Butler School of Music, was the centerpiece.

I am an experienced teacher and youth advocate who has worked with multicultural youth from diverse backgrounds at the elementary and high school levels in workshops and residencies stretching from one day to 10 months. My work as an arts-educator has included appointments throughout Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. My wife Lisa and I co-founded of Toones, After-school Music Enrichment program that gave music lessons to schools that didn't have music programs.
