I began birding in 1977 after a huge storm in Boston. I was suddenly concerned about how the neighborhood birds would find food, so I sprinkled some seed on the snow. Lots of similar looking little brown birds came at first, but then a bright red bird arrived and I made my first identification with the help of an old field guide: Northern Cardinal! That was more than 30 years ago and I've been birding the entire time, traveling around the world repeating that first wonderful moment of discovery.
