I am a classical pianist who has devoted 25 years to teaching. I'm no snob, though. I happily teach all styles of music and refuse to discriminate between them. I have students from beginners to the professional level. I teach children, of course, but have made a special study of teaching adults. Whatever students like, I will try to incorporate into their lessons. I am flexible and adaptable and can accommodate a wide range of learning styles and needs. Many students who've tried lessons in the past found themselves discouraged by the teacher's choice of music or the challenge of reading music. My approach prevents these pitfalls. I like to use a basic method to anchor the lessons, but students will quickly be able to play whatever music they like. I have students who concentrate on The Beatles, current pop hits, tango music, jazz improvisation, new age and, of course, classical. Many people play all sorts. We all have certain sounds in our head we want to find on the piano. I don't expect yours to be the same as mine. I have developed a wide range of materials and methods for teaching music reading, including a color system that makes notation clear for keyboard players right from the first lesson. Since developing these tools, I have had no reading drop-outs. Reading music is not the only purpose of piano lessons, however. It is only a tool to help you get to the music you want to play—which you will be able to do.
