Michelle Kopper Seymour combines 20 years as a professional actor/singer with 15 years of yoga & dance meditation to bring unique insight to her coaching approach. She is committed to facilitating students with integrity, sensitivity and compassion. After teaching, coaching and performing in Manhattan for 15 years, Michelle returned to Portland in 2004 with her passion for teaching and a strong commitment to her own artistic process to reunite with this vital community of performers and create a balanced life with her family.
Michelle is a certified teacher of both Rasa Yoga and The Nia Technique. These practices are an integral part of her work, using breath, movement & sound to enhance physical, emotional and creative well being.
In 1993 Michelle met Ketul Arnold, creator of Rasa Yoga, and began intensive study of the sound & breath practices of yoga & ayurveda, which began her teaching career. These reconnected her to her sound-mind/sound-body and brought tremendous healing to her relationship with her own voice.
During a profound awakening in 1994-1996, Michelle began to experience entire songs happening in her head. In sharing these initial songs—after many years of hiding from the music and voice she was born with and not singing at all—she became convinced that freeing her voice was integral to her artistry and her life…
In 1994 Michelle connected with teacher and mentor Elynn Diamond ("Freeing Your Voice Means Opening Your Heart"TM) where she entered another crucible of transformation via song and emerged firmly connected and empowered to her own Sound. Michelle went on to become a faculty member at elynndiamondstudio @ Carnegie Hall in 1997 and began to develop her own approach to performance work incorporating her lifetime of theatre and movement training with her singing performance process, which has evolved into the work she facilitates today. Michelle Kopper Studio began in 2003 at Theatre Row Studios in NYC.
Her continuing creative work includes theatre, film & television as well as showcasing, recording & producing her songs. Michelle’s favorite leading role is being mom to her sons Greyson & Rowen.
