Ahlan wa Sahlan!! (Hello All),
My name is Nazir Harb. I founded and served as Director of the Middle Eastern Cultures & Languages Program at Seattle University for four years, after having co-founded it and structured it. I graduated cum laude in June with a double major in Sociology (with departmental honors) and International Studies (emphasis in Political Science) and a minor in Philosophy (honors program). I will begin my Masters work at Princeton University in mid-August.
In the past I have not only organized small- and large-scale educational and cultural events regarding Islam and Muslim societies, but I have also participated as a guest speaker or presenter on subjects ranging from early Islamic history to the accouchement of Islamic extremism, Islamic mysticism, pluralism in Islam, Women in Islam, Sexuality in Islam, Islam in Europe, the Sociology of Islam, the Anthropology of Muslim society, and 'The Sociolinguistics of Arabic Political Discourse'.
I established and for 3 years ran the Middle Eastern Cultures and Languages Program at the International Student and Scholar Center at Seattle University. I taught all levels of Arabic language and worked as an assistant researcher and lecturer to Dr. Faizi Ghodsi, professor of 'Islam Today' and 'Arab Anthropology'.
In November I completed work at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Research in the Middle East Project as a research assistant to a visiting journalist scholar.
I am excited to work with motivated students who'd like to learn or improve upon their Arabic!
I thoroughly enjoy teaching and have had ample experience in the classroom and behind the scenes putting together curricula, syllabi, ILOs, lesson plans, and more!
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!
