Review of Scott Kritzer, December 05, 2008
I knew the first lesson that I was hooked for life. Scott sets the bar high and then pushes you to reach it. If you are tired of going to lessons just to learn a new song of the week, then try this studio on for size! The approach to learning is very systematic and the synergy within the studio is nothing short of amazing. Everything you could want or need for classical guitar growth is found in the Kritzer studio.
Oh yeah and if you wanna hear some of the best classcial guitar music every, just listen to his new CD. It is awesome!

Review of Scott Kritzer, December 05, 2008
For about 20 years I had a desire to learn classical guitar and, after several false starts, I finally got around to it. A year and a half ago I made the commitment and started looking for an instructor. There were none in my area, the nearest being an hour drive away. Searching the internet, I was VERY lucky to stumble upon the website of Scott Kritzer, a teacher with a great classical guitar resume. One of his only requirements was that his students must have a "beginners mind", which certainly qualified me. Sign me up!
During my time with Scott, my understanding of the guitar, my technique, and my ability to listen have grown exponentially. It has been a wonderful experience, expanding my understanding of something I love to do.
Scott has a method which I have grown to trust and respect. At first I did not know what to expect and couldn't see where his instructions were taking me. After moving through three of Scott's teaching phases, I am now starting to see where we are going and how his exercises are improving my playing. Each time I learn something new, I am glad no one (except my wife and cat) got to hear me play the old way, because my tone and technique are constantly improving.
Initially, I would receive his instructions via email videos, and then I would send him my video when I thought I was ready, which he would then evaluate. We recently began having our lessons live, on-line which is a much better method. Being live allows for Instant corrections of mistakes and also question and answer discussions which weren't available before. I am looking forward to many more years of learning from this great teacher.

Review of Scott Kritzer, December 05, 2008
I have taken lessons from Scott for 3 1/2 years and highly recommend him for a number of reasons:
If you want to develop your technique, Scott has an excellent grasp of what your right hand should be doing (alternation and sympathetic motion) and translates that into small pieces that build on each other. If you want to find out where your potential lies you really have to understand what your hands should be doing and he is really, really skilled at giving students bite sized pieces that take you step by step.
He also has an amazing grasp of how music works and helps students understand how to interpret phrases and pieces. I've watched him in maybe 30 hours of Master Classes and it's amazing to watch him listen to a student and then push them in directions that make their pieces sound so much better.
I agree with what others have said about performing. He pushes us that direction and it really makes a difference.
Anyone who takes lessons from Scott will benefit. He has learned for great teachers and he definitely caught what they were teaching and has developed a strong methodology for teaching.

"Some Tyrants Make Great Teachers"

Review of Scott Kritzer, November 24, 2008
Scott Kritzer Classical Guitar teacher.
I have been taking lessons from Scott since 2002. The fact tht I am still at it is a strong recommendation for his ability. Even he himself describes himself as a tough taskmaster (he says: "I’m considered a tyrant of sorts ').
His approach is strong on technique - which is a must for any serious classical guitar player. He also emphasizes, more than any other teacher I know, the importance of performing. He brings huge credibility to this emphasis since has been performing for many years (I don't know exactly how many) and has performed in some the world's best known venues (like Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, The Kennedy Center, etc).
Yes he does compel you to perform ( he is jealous of his reputation as a tyrant) but he also teaches the tools to deal with performance anxiety, which makes your performing a valuable part of your learning.
When he says he is a tyrant "of sorts" it is only "of sorts". Scott has a most enjoyable personality, loves to laugh , has a great sense of humor and a great sense of fun, and has even been known to make fun of himself on occasion. He is also a very patient teacher (evidenced by the fact that he stuck with me just as long as I stuck with him).
He has organized his studio to be a resource for students with books, recordings and practice room all available when a student is not actually in a lesson (I like to spend a half an hour warming up and practicing just before a lesson - which I can do even though he is teaching someone else ahead of me). He also offers classes, get togethers, ensemble playing and othe supplements to his students - many (though not all) at no extra charge.
Scott is a tyrant who is very capable of having fun and laughing at himself and at the same time is capable of teaching you classical guitar.

Review of Scott Kritzer, November 20, 2008
I have been taking lessons from Scott Kritzer for several months. His approach is very organized and systematic.
I started working with him having had very little instruction in guitar technique. The changes which take place are gradual, but I get the sense that when I have brought my technique to a certain level of mastery I will see great improvement in my playing.
Scott seems very dedicated not only to his own guitar artistry, but to his teaching and his students. I feel privileged to be working with him. He is a great teacher, and I would highly recommend him.
