My name is Virginia Bowen--aka The Yarn Lady.
Owning the yarn shop has been a life changing experience--especially since I had never dreamed of owning a yarn store. When I retired from real estate, I decided I needed to do something new while we waited for our youngest daughter to graduate from high school. My husband had his tennis, so he was content.
At one of her soccer practices, I found out this shop was for sale. Within a month I owned the whole thing. Why did I buy it? I've always loved to embroider, I knew how to knit and crochet, so I figured I would spend my days doing my art while she grew up.
It turned out that people wanted yarn, and I bought what they wanted and just grew with my customers. I'm now passionate about knitting and crochet and have the best customers in the world.
I've owned Seattle Yarn for 11 years.
The daughter graduated, went on the school, got married and now works in the shop. The whole thing has been a great deal of fun.
When I bought the shop it was called Yarn Gallery, but after my business increased, I started receiving shipments of yarn from all over the country that I hadn't ordered, so I changed the name about 5 years ago. That cut down on the confusion of my vendors, but created a dual image for the local customers.
