The music that fires me up is music with rhythm that makes me want to move, harmonies that surprise me, lyrics that confuse and amuse me, melodies that make me laugh or cry, textures that remind me of intricate quilts or complex cuisines. Music is yoga for the brain, uniting ears, eyes, hands, heart, breath, body and spirit in a metalanguage that transcends barriers. Recent research has shown that playing music sets off fireworks in the brain. I can help you find the flow in your own musical practice; discover the sounds that ignite your soul. I've studied music most of my life, from piano lessons at age five through a masters degree in theory and composition. I've taught private lessons, college courses, and workshops, and directed choirs and theatrical productions. I've played chamber music, opera, music theatre, jazz, folk, rock, and worldbeat. I am an active member of Oregon Music Teachers Association and the Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network.
