Susan Sigge began her musical career on the organ at the age of five, and picked up the flute five years later. She has performed as a soloist and with many orchestras throughout California, including Monterey, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Vallejo, Fremont, Redding and Napa Symphonies, as well as Festival Opera and San Francisco Masterworks Chorale. Susan performed the West Coast Premiere of Praescio V for flute and computer by Bruce Pennycook, and the U.S. Premiere of Yong for solo flute by Paul Douglas. She is also an active freelance musician, performing for weddings, parties and other social events.
Ms. Sigge received her Master of Arts Degree in Music from San Jose State University, where she studied with French flutist Isabelle Chapuis. Her teachers include James B. Walker, Angela Koregelos, Lloyd Gowen and Susan Waller, and she has taken Master classes with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Michel Dubost, Julius Baker, Ransom Wilson, Frances Blaisdell, James Galway, Jimmy Walker and Peter Lloyd among others.
Susan has been producing and performing children’s concerts for the Vallejo and Benicia School Districts for the past 9 years. Her trio has played everything from early Renaissance music to Rap music written by Susan. Her goal is to open kid’s musical world so they can experience and enjoy all types of music and have it connect to their school curricurlum. The concerts have met with great enthusiasm from teachers, principals and students.
Susan teaches privately in Martinez. She has had many students win chairs in such ensembles as San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, Oakland Youth Symphony, Diablo Youth Symphony, Young Persons Symphony Orchestra, Young Artists Symphony Orchestra and District, County, Northern California and State Honor Bands. Her students have placed in or won competitions with Performing Arts Society, Flock of Flutes, MTAC Scholarship Competition, Berkeley Etude Club, and many more. She is the founder and conductor emeritus of Flock of Flutes, and a member of Music Teachers Association of California and National Flute Association.
Susan has been judging Certificate of Merit through MTAC and competitions since 1998, frequently being asked back by performers and administrators due to her positive comments.
Susan lives in Martinez with her husband and two children.

Review of Susan Sigge, March 07, 2009
I've had the pleasure of knowing Susan Sigge for many years, and have heard her play many times, and observe her teaching style with a large group of flutists. Susan has a gift for teaching - she makes it look effortless. Her style is gentle but firm, and she draws out the best in her students, by example and encouragement.
Indeed, Susan has by osmosis taught me some skills in other seemingly unrelated areas - using the same ethic with which she approaches her music - discipline, practise, excellent aesthetics and lifelong learning.

It was also good for me to have Susan teaching me because it was fun for me to go to my lessons. Even though my past teachers were good, there were some days when I didn’t look forward to going to the lessons, or days when I didn’t prepare for lessons since I wasn’t motivated enough… and I know that’s not their fault, but I also know that each lesson I had with Susan I went in looking forward to it and left happy and left feeling like I had really learned something. It was nice being motivated again with music and having fun in the process. I had to get ready for an audition in a short period of time and I was accepted to the school I applied to and I know my lessons helped me with having a successful audition.
