I began singing and playing instruments (piano, guitar) because my father was a musician performing bluegrass and country music with a local band.
Singing became my way to feel and express the emotions that arose in my teenage years. It gave me a way to voice my thoughts and ideas. Singing and playing also led me to be in front of an audience at school, church and community functions. The time I spent on stage, especially as a solo singer, helped me have more confidence when I became a teacher at the college level.
I began studying voice privately over thirty years ago, working with various teachers along the way. Eventually I was introduced to ARC (A Return to Consciousness) which further opened the way for me to experience singing with my entire body. Singing began to feel good physically. I started to realize the truth in what teachers had been telling me—that supported singing involves the entire body.
My enthusiasm for singing grew when it shifted from being a tight squeeze through the vocal folds into a full body resonance. It is this shift that I hope to facilitate for the students who choose to work with me in my studio.
