  Tim makes me feel like I've accomplished much in a short time in guitar. It's very encouraging to be able to play a duet with him each week. I'm very comfortable in his presence. Tim also makes sure I "do it right" - no bad habits. I appreciate his teaching style very much and look forward to each lesson.

  Tim Mackey is a wealth of musical knowlege. He has perfect patience for the beginner, like me, who always feels stupid. After a class with him you feel like you can actually master what you're working on (if you practice). And unlike some other music teachers he doesn't waste your time & $ talking about himself and his accomplishments (which are many).

  I'm fourteen years old and I've been a student of Tim's for close to two years now. His patience and attention to detail is unmatched along with his skill and mastery of his instuments. Each lesson is a new fun and insightful experience. I would truely recomend Tim to anyone who is looking to get the most "bang for their buck" and the most knowledge for their time.

  Review of 5-String Banjo Lessons (Bluegrass only), June 12, 2009

  I show up at Tim Mackey's for my banjo lesson tired and "brain dead" after work. Tim's teaching style energizes me. I leave stress-free and feeling good about my lesson. I've been playing for a few months now. My wife and cats don't run out of the room when I practice anymore. Thanks to Tim Mackey, a talented, and gifted, professional teacher.

  Review of Violin Lessons (Classical, Bluegrass, Jazz), June 10, 2009

  I am a 55-year old adult starting to learn violin/fiddle. I have played guitar for a few years and wanted to learn to play fiddle music. What I am slowly learning is that a violin is an instrument made up of more than multiple parts...there is the violin itself (which doesn't have frets to help with fingering), a bow, and the player (both bowing and fingering the strings); it is like trying to rub your head and belly at the same time while walking backwards whistling a tune. And all four must work together in perfect unison. I have only been taking lessons for a couple of weeks, so I am not very far down the path,but I am starting to make more than just cat scratching on the violin. It's fun to hear the progress even just being able to play scales better this week than last week.

  I would highly recommend Tim to anyone trying to learn violin or fiddle.
