Do you have a favorite teacher? I do. He was my 7th grade math teacher Mr. McClure. He kept us laughing and made difficult topics seem easy.
But, I wasn't always a math whiz. One of the units he taught us was "Logarithms," which involved decimal point. During the unit, nicknamed me "The Decimal Point Kid" because I used to get confused where to place the decimal in my answers! He kept our attention by including class members' names in the word problems on the tests. Needless to say, "The Decimal Point Kid" was the topic of several questions!
I continued math courses and psychology courses in college until I got my teaching credential. Because I wanted to express my gratitude and share how much he impacted me and my career choice, I wrote him a letter.. I was surprise he wrote back and told me he remembered "The Decimal Point Kid." He said I could call him by his first name, "Mac," but to me he will always be "my dear Mr. McClure."
Do you want to improve your study skills to get the most out of school, or do you need to prepare for a big test? Perhaps you want help with math, Alg 1, Geom, Alg 2, or Trig?
Or, as a parent, do you notice your child's grades are slipping, that s/he lacks confidence in school or has disorganized study habits? Maybe your young adult student is going off to college and would benefit from regular coaching via phone, but you don't want to "nag" or "hover."
I provide educational coaching and tutoring to improve organization, raise confidence. comprehension. My style is enthusiastic, thorough and gentle so is well-suited to most students. I tutor face to face and using SKYPE. Long distance academic coaching is available via telephone.
When I tutor, I adjust to how fast you work, and if I find a hole in your knowledge, we discuss the topic more deeply so that you don't have to depend on precarious rote memorization to get through a class. We can work for a semester, a few weeks, or even just a few times.
My rates depend on whether or not you travel to Emeryville where I tutor, or whether I travel to your location ($40 - $60 hour). There is a 25% late cancellation fee of less than 4 hours.
Call me so I can learn what type of help you need and can schedule an appointment for you.
