Jean has a knack for helping each person reach a higher potential for her/himself. I find that I am not critical of myself, just loving and progressive in her class. Each student finds the ability to grow and stretch with no guilt. The empowerment gained in each yoga class enables me to return, believing in myself and knowing that for each class that I come to my yoga practice is "perfect". This is especially important since I have a long way to go in reaching my personal goals. This kind of motivation and encouragement helps me to know I will succeed. Kudos to Jean and the studio for manifesting this kind of positive attitude!! Namaste!

the thing i noticed about jean the most was that she really meets you where you are meaning that her focus isn't on making you into gumby or anything like that. she wants to focus on the holistic benefits of yoga in your entire being. i know that she would definitely work with you in whatever stage of yoga you're in. might be a bit too much emphasis on the spiritual side of things for my taste but definitely appreciate the approachability!

I met Jean at the TeachStreet Yoga event. She was very personable, and made the session feel very light-hearted and enjoyable. She teaches the Anusara(sp?)-style yoga which involves chanting. I'm not sure how comfortable I personally am with the chating, but when Jean demoed it... it sounded very nice.

    Teacher's Response:

Thanks for the review Adam! Participation in chanting in class is always optional. I just like to let people know that it happens ;)

I met Jean (owner of Village Green Yoga) at TeachStreet's free yoga event for students, "What type of Yogi are you?", and she was everything you could hope for in a yoga instructor: funny, instructive, smart, caring, strong, adaptive, innovative, calming and full of heart and enthusiasm!

I'd never heard of Anusara before, so this was really a fun experience to learn something completely new. Jean was great at describing this type of yoga and also the calm and inner strength that folks find from this practice. She also was really intent on helping us know that yoga is something that anyone (even you!) can do, with practice and determination. Jean removed the intimidating parts of yoga (you don't have to do a backbend on your first day) and the pretentiousness that sometimes goes along with yoga. She was a "real" as they come and was very excited and enthusiastic to be a great teacher and resource for folks who are interested in learning all things yoga-arific.

After the demo, I sort of wanted to kidnap Jean and make her my BFF (she was just that great!), but instead, I'm settling to hike it down to Issaquah sometime soon and take a few classes from Village Green. Check 'em out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Side note, they do acroyoga at Village Green. Jean demo'd some of this as well... and it's pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen. If you've never heard of it I highly recommend googling at the very least. It's really a cool way to experience your body.

Thanks a lot for presenting at the Free Yoga Workshop we had here in Seattle. The insight you have about Anusara and yoga in general was great. I really enjoyed the togetherness and concept of how yoga conforms differently to each person. Yoga in general seems to be very inspiring. Next time, I'll definitely remember to keep on breathing during the poses.
