WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST TENNIS LESSON!
Posted by Mark Schneider on July 08, 2009
When you meet with a USPTA Professional Tennis Instructor for the first time, your experience should be fun, success oriented and educational for both you and the instructor. Your pro should ask you about your past experiences with tennis, other sports that you have played and what your goals you have with regard to learning the sport. Your instructor should give you some background on his or her teaching background as well.
When you choose to work with me on the court – these are just a few of the positive experiences you’ll get from your lesson!
On court assessment is one of the first tasks that I conduct when starting out with a new tennis student. Without giving any feedback or instruction, I will toss...

What does it take to be a great tennis player? Higgins Tennis can show you how.
Posted by William Higgins on March 06, 2009
All great players are masters of the following: Technique, Positioning, and Decision Making.Great Technique boils down to having strokes that can come through for you on the big points. A lot of players can keep it pretty close for most of the match's duration, but then when it comes crunch time their strokes crumble. The first thing to always examine when a stroke is falling apart is how the player is striking the ball. If they have any technical deficiencies in their stroke then it will show up under the gun. Technique generally comes down to one thing: spin. Can you produce it and can you deal with it coming at you. Why is Nadal such a sure fire winner everytime? Spin. He hits a heavy ball, which gives him a huge margin for error and so he doesn't give any points away and he can produce incredible ball speeds, so if his opponents can't match those speeds their own...

Surrounding yourself with a group of tennis buddies
Posted by Joseph Sunga on February 12, 2009
What was the best part about learning tennis?Tennis is definitely a lifelong sport since I've made so many lifelong friends from playing tennis. I started playing tennis when I was in high school, and a lot of the folks I've played with in school and outside of school are the same folks I play with today. There seems to be a great community of tennis players here in Seattle and I think that's what keeps me coming back and playing every Spring and Summer. The best part of the these relationships is that you can always see yourself grow in terms of your game each day, whether it be a better serve that day or a crisper backhand. What was the most difficult part?I'm a pretty aggressive tennis player who loves to serve and...
How to grip a tennis racket
Posted by Harold on February 12, 2009
There are four major types of tennis grips: continental grip, eastern grip, semi-western grip, western grip. Each grip has their distinct advantages and disadvantages and should also be used according to your skill level.Almost ever tennis racket handle is octagon shaped. These 8 sides will help us with our tennis grips. Hold the tennis racket up so you can see the octagon at the bottom of the tennis racket and the face of the racket is perpendicular to the ground. Each of these flat sides are called bevels. If you are right...
