Trumpeter/composer Samantha Boshnack has been creating music of her own and performing with a plethora of musicians and groups in Seattle since 2003.
She graduated from Bard College where she studied with Erica Lindsay, Joan Tower, and John Thomas. Her work has received acclaim from music critics from around the world, and she has received support from 4Culture, Jack Straw Productions, ASCAPlus, and the Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs. Boshnack's music has been performed in a variety of venues from rock clubs, to concert halls, to school auditoriums, and she has extensively toured the U.S. She is a trumpet player in high demand in a wide variety of genres including classical/contemporary music, salsa/son, jazz/free jazz, rock and Balkan/Klezmer. In addition to conventional trumpet, Boshnack also plays flugelhorn, piccolo and slide trumpet. She has performed and recorded with Paul Rucker, Wayne Horvitz, The Dead Science, Eyvind Kang, Hans Teuber, Tom Varner, Lori Goldston, Mark Oi, Tobi Stone, and Evan Flory-Barnes, among others. Current projects include Reptet, Picoso, Orkestar Zirkonium, WACO, Figeater, Publish the Quest, Sasson, the Monktail Creative Music Concern, and Threat of Beauty.
Boshnack has been teaching trumpet and piano lessons as well as classes on jazz improvisation for eight years. She is an active music educator and currently teaches trumpet at Music Center of The Northwest and other schools in the Seattle area. During lessons, students can focus on improving tone, learning classical or jazz technique or both, improving sight reading, understanding music theory, learning how to improvise and compose, and constructing a better solo.
