What is Twitter?

Posted by Dave Schappell on February 24, 2009

Are you interested in learning more about "What is Twitter?" -- the video above, from the folks at Common Craft, quickly explains the service, and why so many people love it.

Basically, it lets you share "what you're doing" with the world, in short 140-character updates.  Then, your friends can subscribe to your posts, or "follow" you.  If they lose interest, they can "unfollow" you.

It's like text-messaging, but instead of having to send individual messages to each friend, twitter allows you to publicly post your updates, and then they can keep in touch, on their own schedule.

I like it, because it's a lightweight way to keep in touch with my friends and network.  My only advice is, don't "follow" too many people who aren't actual friends -- it's easy to quickly get overwhelmed with non-interesting/relevant "tweets" -- start out small, with friends, and don't worry about culling your follow-lists every so often!

Oh, and of course, if you're interested, you can follow me!
