I can tutor them in technique, sight-reading, ear-training, music theory, scales, arpeggios and tips for better performance. This can be fun! This Fall I have many openings for students with these needs -but my schedule is not flexible and I want a *commitment. I have often helped those who are participating in various school orchestras, Capital Area Youth Symphony, SOGO.
We diversify with fiddle tunes from celtic, bluegrass and swing tunes on the side for "dessert".
*student needs to be willing and must have a positive attitude.

If a student is only going to take a few lessons and not sign up for the monthly plan the fee is $50 per hour lesson. However the monthly plan offers more benefits and is $45 per lesson: $90 per month.

Barbara Collins is one of the best fiddlers in the region, and one of the best teachers. I would highly recommend her for gaining a solid foundation in a particular style of fiddling (she's accomplished in many styles including jazz and classical violin). She's extremely patient at building confidence and inspires her students to improvise. I like very much that she teaches how to read musical notation in the style that it should be played. Improvisation has always been a hurdle for me, but now, after lessons with Barbara, I enjoy the challenge. I particularly find the opportunity of playing with a backup sound track that she provides and hearing her harmony to the melodies a wonderfully enriching experience. It's a rare treat to play with such a fine musician.
