8 Thursdays April 2 – May 21 7–8:30pm Item 5422

Travel writing lets us traverse the world on sheets of paper, journeying everywhere from the cobblestone streets of Amsterdam to the “Swiss Alps” of Addis Ababba Ethiopia. Pack along a sense of adventure, a journalist’s eye, and a storyteller’s flair. In this course, you will learn about the full spectrum of travel writing—articles, guidebooks, travel memoir and essay—as well as such writing craft elements as description, structure, tone, and voice. Reading of travel can provide inspiration to set us in motion or can transport readers to foreign locales while learning the customs, traditions, annual festivals, and day-to-day living in a foreign country. Whether it is to expand learning through cultural exchange, further world peace, or to earn an income at what you love doing—this class is for you! The instructor has had several overlapping careers including actor, writer, travel agent, teacher, book seller, and has traveled all over the world and led trips across the Sahara Desert, and walking tours along the Kenyan and Tanzanian border.
