Yoga, The Whole Experience

Posted by Kitty Wittkower on February 17, 2009

Yoga means Union.  Living the joyous life of heaven on earth meeting life through our Yoga practice and devoted heart. Devoted to what? I'm not really sure, something like:  the big sea, Love, an imagined waterfall from a endless sea of light nourishing and supporting cellularly -The Universal Life Force Energy , it's a Mystery really.  Yoga practice provides us with tools and a framework to harmonize our bodies with our minds, our intentions with our actions, and our individual self with the universal energy, moving through and around us.  To desire for this union with Nature connects us to what is most meaningful, lighting a flame of spirit within to warm ourselves and others by.  Yoga does give a person a charisma, even radiance, it's best to stay innocent to this and stay in the moment.   Most people think of yoga as physical movement, and through physical movement we can connect to body mind spirit wholeness, if we can focus our minds at the same time.  In Yoga practice, reaching out through our arms and down through our legs connects us with the earth and strengthens us for our life work.  Reaching up, into the flow of the sun salutation symbolically connects us to the universal life force, awakening internal warmth which moves as energy, opening and clearing the body and mind.  Turning inward with renewed clarity, through the forward bending asanas - where this energy may turn toward personal transformation of our mental perceptions and emotional attitudes.  Reversing polarity in inverted postures: head to the earth center us on releasing fear and attachments, nourish the glandular system and brain.   Then, to surrender into reclining postures, and the present moment, shavasana the corpse pose.  In stillness we can discover our true nature is joy, or sometimes cry.  Yet, by consciously connecting through our yoga practice to our own creativity, we can re-establish our connection to spirit and the world around us, to welcome a complete range of self expression into our lives and embrace fully the life experience with equanimity.

    • Kitty, great article! Thanks again for exemplifying this practice through the yoga workshop not to long ago! I think turning in toward renewed clarity is someone everyone should try...
